No purging or scanning today. Instead, a friend and I walked the Coyote Creek Trail from Silver Creek Road to Hellyer Park and back. It was a beautiful day and would have loved to stay out longer.
I spent more time today going through my old comic books and trying to decide which ones to keep. (It won’t be any of the books pictured below) It’ll be some cool first issue covers like Venom: Lethal Protector, Generation X and X-Men Alpha & Omega. I was a sucker for the foil covers and those have some great art on them. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of them tonight.
Today I went through my collection of trading cards & comic books that I’d been saving since the early to mid 90s. Most of the trading cards are shit so I’ll be getting rid of them. I’ll probably keep some of the comics and reread them. I’m gonna take the rest of my 25+ year old collection to the flea market as part of this recent purge and hopefully others will find joy in them and bring them home.
This afternoon I messed around with Photoshop to try and get a scanned image of an old ballpoint drawing of mine to look, and print out, like the original. I think my adjustments made it look worse. I had to run some errands so I left it alone and didn’t come back to it. Tomorrow I’ll try again and use a different drawing, maybe some line art, and try and reproduce it.
Today was President’s Day. I went to the movies and had dinner with a friend. When I got home I watched a video on how to properly scan line artwork and took notes. I almost fell asleep watching it. Tomorrow I’ll give it another chance.
Today I went hiking at Joseph D. Grant Park for the first time in almost ten months. I specifically went to revisit one of my favorite places inside the park. As I was leaving I had to stop my car to let a family of wild pigs cross the street. The piglets are super cute but they grow up to be ugly AF! I finally hooked up my new scanner to the computer and did a couple test scans. I scanned an old ballpoint pen drawing and printed the scans to compare them to the original.
I’m trying to get rid of as much stuff as I can. Stuff that’s been accumulating. Stuff I don’t use. Sell what I can at the flea market and donate the rest to Goodwill.
Tonight I went through a tub full of my old sketchbook and labeled them with the years I drew in them. My oldest sketchbook was from my senior year in high school. 1999. I’m planning on scanning old drawings and using them in zines.
Again, I was feeling guilty about not doing anything artsy fartsy all day so I sketched this robot before bed. I might come back and ink it later.
Nothing on the artsy fartsy front to report on today besides this sketch of an alien creature I drew before bed.
I helped my dad replace a kitchen faucet this afternoon then we watched the Super Bowl. Rams vs Bengals. Good game. The commercials were meh. I wasn’t very productive after the game so I inked a little of my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle drawing before bed. Half of Raphael’s torso and his sai.
I’ve had zines on the brain lately. I sketched this a few days ago and did a little inking on the iPad tonight using Procreate. It’s my first time inking with this app. I’ve been using Adobe Fresco for their vector brush up until now.
I bought a $250 flatbed scanner today. The plan is to scan a bunch of drawings from my sketchbooks and make zines. I’ve been wanting to make a zine for a while and I got a bunch of drawings and sketches I’ve hoarded over the years, many of which I’ve never shown to anyone. I figure a zine is a good way of distributing my art for relatively cheap.
I’m still hiking and feeling a little stronger every time! My last two hikes have been shorter distances with a higher elevation. Today I stopped at a few benches to rest and draw in my little sketchbook.
Yyy Today I hiked the Penitencia Creek Trail at Alum Rock Park again. I was able to hike without stopping till I reached the end then I took a 40 minute drawing break before heading back.
I haven’t done much drawing lately but I inked a little more of this Ninja Turtles piece before bed tonight.
