I did nothing artsy today but I did go groceries shopping, worked out at home, went on a 4 mile walk, then cooked dinner & ate. Tomorrow I'll get back to work on Hearts & Stars adding details.
Spider-Bean was just a regular teenage spider until he was bitten by a radioactive blue bean. Now he swings around town fighting crime as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Bean!
Rot. In. Pot.
Today my little aloe vera plant finally bit the big one. This morning I saw that the last leaf I was trying to revive was half rotted away. The plant was a gift from my friend Amanda. She gave it to me in August and apparently I've been overwatering it since then. I sketched the bone plant drawing after the first leaves fell off in February and digitally inked it tonight to commemorate Planties short life and long drawn out death. Today I went thru tubs full of old acrylic craft paints and spray paint to see which ones are still good and throw away the bad ones. If the acrylics were clumpy/boogery or almost empty I threw the paint at a wooden panel and canvas. I then used the wet canvases to test the spray paint. In the end I scraped off a bunch of paint from the center of the canvas and scribed an X into the wood panel. Both were looking really nasty but kinda cool. I might let them dry and keep them as-is or I'll use them to test my bucket paints next.
As seen on Insta:
"Next Friday would have been the opening of my exhibit at the Martin Luther King Jr Library. The library is closed until further notice so there will be no exhibit but we might do something virtually over the interwebs at a later date." Started inking this piece today. The plan is to do the same as the last one. Sharpie first, for the thick lines, then Micron for the thin lines. I could have finished the first phase of this today but I got a late start.
Today I finished inking Brains/Guts (just need to white-out the mistakes,) made a Happy 420 doodle for all the stoners maaaaaan, and digitally inked an old drawing I made called "Pac Man Must Die"
I'm going in with a Micron pen and sharpening the creases. Making them long & sharp. The left side of the image below is done. The right side is not. I got most of it done today. Tomorrow I should finish inking and white-out any mistakes. Then it's on to the next one...
Today I finally put some ink down on my Brains/Guts drawing. First I tested out a few different markers and settled on a Sharpie for the broad lines and Micron Graphic 1 for the thin lines. I did all the Sharpie work tonight and erased the pencil marks. Tomorrow I'm going to go thru with the Micron to sharpen all the creases and use Pro-White to fix any mistakes.
I didn't do anything artsy all day so I started digitizing an old sketch on the iPad before bed. So far, it's not looking how I want it so I might erase and start over again tomorrow. So let it WIP... I think I can officially say I'm done with the pencils on my three pieces, Hearts & Stars (not pictured), Eyes & Mouths (left), and Brains/Guts (center & right.) Next, I plan is to use Sharpies for the main lines and Microns for the details. I can't wait to be done with these fuckers!!!
I thought today was Thursday. It's actually Wednesday but it feels like Groundhog Day Almost done with pencils! I worked on this piece for a few hours before taking this picture earlier today. I worked on it again before bed and got a most of the bottom right corner filled in. I just have to redraw a few of the parts bleeding off the edge then it's time to ink. I'll probably hold off on inking this till after I've finished the pencils on my Brains/Guts piece. I want to ink those and the Hearts & Stars all together and be done with these fuckers!
This afternoon I went on Instagram Live and DJ'd a 90-minute set and only stopped when I was booted off Instagram, when it detected certain copyrighted songs. There was a 30-minute chunk from my set, all 80s music, that Instagram won't let me share so I did a screen recording and uploaded it here. The 1st, 3rd & 4th sets (as of right now) are up for a another 18 hours on my Instagram (@frankiemcfly) Enjoy!
So I made up this evil Easter bunny character I call the Beaster Dummy. I first drew it in 2014 (bottom left) not very evil looking. I must have skipped a few years because the next one was 2019 and it looked a little gnarlier than before. This year I wanted to emphasize the "beast" so I made it scarier. I feel it could have used a few more hours to really make me happy but it was already past midnight and Beaster is over.
That half a house key I pulled out of my tire yesterday wasn't what caused it to go flat. Today I removed the tire, put some air in it, sprayed it with soapy water (where I pulled the key from) but there were no bubbles. I was confused till I looked on the other side and saw the nail head. I videotaped myself pulling it out with pliers. It was a big fucker, as you can see. I had a tire plug kit in my car so I was able to plug it up quick, put the wheel back on, fill all the tires to the recommended tire pressure, then went out for a spin. It was a beautiful Saturday so I drove up the hill and back. Not a smart idea, incase it went flat again, but luckily nothing happened. This afternoon I found that my front driver side tire was flat before going out for a grocery run. I pulled out half a house key with a pair of pliers. Luckily I was able to borrow a car to run to the store. After disinfecting all the groceries and washing my reusable cloth bags I was still in a shitty mood so I went for a long walk to blow off some steam. I walked over 6 miles in a little over 2 hours. I went to Lake Cunningham to walk a lap before heading back home. While I was there I walked past my friend who happened to be riding her bike and recording it on her phone. I saw myself later on her Instagram Story. After getting back home & showering I had a few cocktails and worked on my drawing some more. I'm so damn tired from the walking and staying up late but I am feeling a little bit better than before. A little. I don't know how much longer I'm gonna make it thru sheltering-in-place without losing my shit. Wish me luck.
Check out the video. I've just about finished penciling the bottom half. All the Eyes & Mouths are pretty much done so I gotta finish the details in the skin, or whatever it is that surrounds everything and keeps it all together. I can't wait to ink this and be done with it. This is kinda what it looks like when you go to @sanjoseday on Instagram and scroll to my post. It's one long seamless image broken down into 10 slides. I laid out a bunch of different digital drawings & designs I've made over the past few years. It was fun making this and participating in the virtual art show since we're all still sheltering in place. The actual San Jose Day event has been postponed to July 18. Hopefully we'll be over the 'Rona by then. Fingers crossed. April 8th (4/08) is San Jose Day. There was originally an event planned for this Saturday, the 11th, but it was postponed to July 19th because of the Covid-19 pandemic we've been dealing with for the past few weeks. Instead of just waiting till July, Haley, who runs San Jose Day, thought it would be fun to host a virtual art show via Instagram on 4/08. She invited me and a bunch of local artists to submit up to 10 images/slides that will go on a single post. I had fun with mine and pulled an all nighter yesterday working on it. I can't wait till everyone sees it!
Here's a tiny sneak peak, follow @sanjoseday on Instagram to see the whole thing on Wednesday 4/08 I created a body because I used it in another project and didn't want it hanging off the bottom right corner. Now it's running around naked spitting all over everything.
No one's buying t-shirts anymore so I've introduced two new items to my online store:
Frankie Mcfly's Reusable Face Mask & Frankie Mcfly's Reusable Toilet Paper Roll. For cooties & poops during this Covid-19 pandemic. Both items are available now (find them under t-shirts) *Remember to wash before you wear or wipe! |
