Between walking around Emma Prusch Park, checking out the Mexica New Year event, and walking the Penitencia Creek Trail at Alum Rock Park, I walked 7.7 miles and I am tired AF.
Tonight I knocked out my Inktober drawings for days 7 & 8. I had to catch up and draw two today because I didn't draw one yesterday. Earlier, I started painting my ceramic skull for Local Color's 31 Skulls Fundraiser. I spray painted the bottom and some of the sides and still need to do the top. After spray painting I'm going to draw on the skull with an oil based marker and clear coat it when I'm done. I'm hoping to finish it this weekend.
I spent a lot more time on this than I originally wanted, and I could have kept going, but I'm trying not to spend too much time on my Inktober drawings this year.
I'm off to a late start, but here are Inktober 2021 drawings 1 & 2. I just realized this is my 5th year doing Inktober. Up until a few minutes ago, I thought it was my 4th.
After a long day of working in front of the computer I got the urge to start painting a new canvas. I had one lying around that I'd been wanting to paint over. I got the hankering after Meeting of the Minds on Wednesday night. I really liked the way my canvas came out that night and I wanted to do it again but on my own.
I finally went through all the drawings and sketches I've been hoarding over the years and organized them into piles. One pile is old drawings from middle school & high school, making them 20-25 years old. The other piles are of monsters, aliens, head things, shape things, graffiti, video games as well as a large stack to trash or repurpose. The reason I went through all of them today was to look for an old sketch I did in high school of my buddy Victor's band name, QMI. He ordered a t-shirt of mine yesterday so I wanted to surprise him with a custom button when I ship it to him so I redrew the artwork digitally and colored it in. The design might be a little too detailed for a 1.5" button but I'll find out tomorrow when I print it out.
I went to Orange Moon Salon this afternoon to hang my latest 18 x 24 inch drawing. The one I drew earlier this month. It's now hanging out with the rest of its cousins on the wall. We also started talking about doing an art closing reception at the salon, since my drawings have been up for months. Nothing is certain but we might do it in July.
I drew another Head Thing thing today. I suffered from major wrist-rust and it took me a while to loosen up but it came out ok. There's also footage of me drawing it but it needs to be edited down.
Lately I've been thinking about my next t-shirt design. Originally, I wanted to do a design similar to this but with three heads instead of two, each one a different color. Today I drew it out with only two heads to see what it would look like and I really like. It doesn't look much different than the three headed variety and it would be easier and less expensive to print. I would tweak this image a bit and draw it digitally before going into production but this might be shirt number 4.
I went over all 4 of these drawings today and whited-out any mistakes. I probably missed a few so I'm gonna over it again tomorrow. Besides that, they're done. They're gonna go in frames but I want to take some hi-res photos of them before framing them to make prints later. The original plan was to show these at my exhibit at the SJSU/Martin Luther King Library, which would have ran thru May and June but was canceled due to the Coronavirus. I'm hoping there's not a 2nd wave, now that things are reopening, so I can look for a place to hang my work for a future art show. Fingers crossed! I think I'm gonna try and knock out one more piece this size, if not more, while I stay SIP.
I think that's what I'm gonna call these things. They're an offshoot of Head Things but much simpler using basic shapes. There are more Shape Things to come. Does that sound weird?
The Chiefs might have of beat the Niners in the Super Bowl LIV but Sunday wasn't a total loss. I brought Baby Niner Jacket Face out of retirement and knocked out three doodles that I really-really like.
This is what I drew during my longer-than-usual dinner break at my event tonight. It's heavily inspired by the arcade & pinball games I played at Emporium in San Francisco before the gig.
I new I was going to have longer than usual downtime at my event tonight so I brought my sketch pad and drew while guests were having dinner in another room. Right after taking a picture, to share on the blog, I came up with some new ideas and drew them in.
I'm done with Head Thing 2 poster. I'm currently working on three other drawings but when I'm done with those I might start working the next Head Thing. The first Head Thing (top left) was going to be one of my original 3 t-shirt designs until I found out how much it would cost to print all those shirts so I went with my logo instead. Below are some sketches for possible future Head Things. I'm still looking for one to put on a shirt. All the cracks in Head Thing 2 are not going to work on a screen printed t-shirt.
I think I'm done with Head Thing 2. I might come back later if I think of a good background for it. The next project is to update these 3 old drawings, from an old art show that never happened, and ink them. They're the same size as Head Thing 2. Big. I originally drew them with 2" white borders but now I'm making them edge to edge, full bleed. They're all based off much smaller versions I drew back in 2014 & 2017
I used a Micron 03 and cleaned up some lines I made with a Copic brush marker. The details were so small that it's barely noticeable. It's just a little bit sharper now. Last night I printed a picture I took of the piece and tonight I sketched a possible background but I'm not really feeling the diagonal lines I drew on the photocopy. I'll try again tomorrow.
I added the details to the teeth and made some thin lines bolder. Next I gotta sharpen some lines and add more floaty things around the outside and maybe a background of sorts.
I think I'm done with the cracks. I still gotta work on the teeth then add more floaty things before it's done-done..
