I finally went through all the drawings and sketches I've been hoarding over the years and organized them into piles. One pile is old drawings from middle school & high school, making them 20-25 years old. The other piles are of monsters, aliens, head things, shape things, graffiti, video games as well as a large stack to trash or repurpose. The reason I went through all of them today was to look for an old sketch I did in high school of my buddy Victor's band name, QMI. He ordered a t-shirt of mine yesterday so I wanted to surprise him with a custom button when I ship it to him so I redrew the artwork digitally and colored it in. The design might be a little too detailed for a 1.5" button but I'll find out tomorrow when I print it out.
This is kinda what it looks like when you go to @sanjoseday on Instagram and scroll to my post. It's one long seamless image broken down into 10 slides. I laid out a bunch of different digital drawings & designs I've made over the past few years. It was fun making this and participating in the virtual art show since we're all still sheltering in place. The actual San Jose Day event has been postponed to July 18. Hopefully we'll be over the 'Rona by then. Fingers crossed. Earlier today I drew this monster that ended up looking like that character from the cartoon, "Aaahh Real Monsters," I also received this promotional flyer for the Local Color Daytime Market to share. I'll be vending there, along with other artists/friends/vendors next Sunday, March 8th from 11am-3pm. (491 W San San Carlos St) and just a few minutes ago I vectorized my 10th Shape Thing.
I think this was my first Shape Thing. I drew it 3 weeks ago and vectorized it tonight. I swapped the dots & dashes for diamonds.
Still pulling that taffy. I went a little more off script with this but I like it much better than the sketch.
I think that's what I'm gonna call these things. They're an offshoot of Head Things but much simpler using basic shapes. There are more Shape Things to come. Does that sound weird?
I drew this the other day. I wasn't crazy about it at first but now it's kinda growing on me. I didn't draw or do anything creative today. Instead I spent a good chunk of the day figuring out approximately how many miles I drove in 2019 for business purposes. The number I came up with was 1,586.5 miles.
