It’s been a while since I made new flyers, and I ran out of business cards at Subzero last weekend, so it’s time for a new design. I still need to add all the important info but I’ll have it ready & printed out for this weekend’s events at Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park.
I didn't use the artsy fartsy side of my brain today. I just had a work meeting, went to the movies, then got back to work putting away gear after Friday's event. Nothing to write about, sorta like my thought balloon in the sketch below. I sketched this last week while trying to come up with a new Frankie Mcflyer design but ended up reusing an older one.
Tonight I got all my black 1.0 shirts back from the printers, finished, and a few of the pre-orders & customs too. I'm still waiting on a shipment of blanks to arrive before I can take them to get printed. Today I also picked up the Frankie Mcfly USA maps I reordered in every colorway. I also printed some Frankie Mcflyers at home. All this is for Friday's Street Mrkt & Art Walk where I'll be vending my usual gear.
For the past few weeks I've been in contact with a gentleman who stopped at my booth in October during the First Friday Street Mrkt. He was with his son who talked with me for a little while about my San Jose shirts. They didn't buy anything but I gave them a flyer before they left. A couple weeks later the dad emails me because he wants to buy a couple shirts, and my online store showed I was sold out. He asked when I would have more available again because he wanted to buy a couple for his son and his son's girlfriend as Christmas gifts. I let him know that I was in the process of printing more and I contacted him as soon I as they were available. Today I delivered the shirts after his son left home because they're going to be a surprise. Just thinking about the excitement of unwrapping Christmas presents, and those presents being my t-shirts, totally made my day :)
Earlier this month I designed & printed 100 flyers with my website info to hand out at the First Friday Art Walk. Last weekend I gave away the last flyer at the Viva Calle event. This week I worked on a new flyer to give away Sunday at the SoFa Street Fair. Like last time, I folded a sheet of paper into quarters and sketched ideas on each one. I took a picture of the one I liked most and digitally inked it in Adobe Illustrator Draw on my iPad. The last bits were exporting the drawing to Illustrator on my laptop to add the text and laying out the 4 copies to print. After making sure it looked good I printed 25 sheets at home and took them to Office Depot to get them cut. I'm happy the way they came out. Tomorrow I'll be putting them inside people's bags when they buy a shirt or hand them to people who come into my booth. I still have to design a new business card but I think these are a fun alternative in the meantime.
They just need to be printed & cut. I'm going to hand them out at the Street Mrkt this Friday. I spent more time on it than I intended and I'm still not 100% happy with the result. Maybe next time I'll do more pen & paper work and less digital.
Check out the side by side comparison and fuck-ups below This Friday! Friday! Friday! I'm vending at the Street Mrkt for South First Fridays Art Walk in downtown San Jose. I'll have my t-shirts and stickers for sale from 7pm to 11PM. I'll have my canopy setup somewhere on South 1st St. between San Carlos & Reed streets. Make sure to check out the other vendors and open galleries too. I'm almost out of business cards so I've decided to design and print a flyer to hand out and put in peoples bags. I think it's a little more fun than a boring business card. Check out the sketch below. |
